Mission accomplished on both fronts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ll look at some key findings from each discipline below, but you can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/research\/digital-skills-survey-2019-results\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">click here to see the full report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Digital Skills Survey covered six professional disciplines and functions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/research\/digital-skills-survey-2019-results\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7421 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/d1jxdyr49kipv5.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Coverage-5.gif\" alt=\"Digital Skills Survey\" width=\"1200\" height=\"339\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These were then broken down further into four areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skills and tools<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professional development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Future trends<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were some general findings that were consistent across all disciplines: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The majority of digital professionals are working in small teams (fewer than 10). <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jira and Trello were the most popular project management platforms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slack and email remain the most popular forms of workplace communication.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hootsuite is the most commonly used tool for social media management.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now let\u2019s take a closer look at some of the key findings within each discipline: <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/research\/digital-skills-survey-2019-results\/data\">Data<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">79 percent did not start their career in data. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excel was the most widely used tool, at close to 81 percent. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professionals with the title Data Scientist, however, were more likely to use Python. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The primary use of data was the optimization of existing platforms and products.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">77 percent say they do not work with artificial intelligence. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">63 percent of Designers began their career in design. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">84 percent of Designers design primarily for the web. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sketch and Illustrator were the most popular tools for wireframing. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">InVision was the most popular tool for prototyping.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">89 percent have not yet worked on projects involved voice-based interfaces, and 85 percent have yet to design for the AR\/VR space.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">55 percent of respondents began their career in a field other than development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8 percent have been programming for five years or less.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JavaScript was the most widely used programming language. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JavaScript and Python were the languages Developers most enjoy using. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">78 percent believe that machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) will have the most impact in the next five to 10 years, but 83 percent have not developed for AI platforms.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/research\/digital-skills-survey-2019-results\/development\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">79 percent of digital marketers use a content marketing channel. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MailChimp was by far the most widely used email marketing platform. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">89 percent use Google Analytics to measure their campaign performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salesforce is the most popular customer relationship management platform.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">68 percent of marketing professionals are using WordPress.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">65 percent of Marketers do not work at companies that sell products online.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">88 percent started their careers in a different field.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 80 percent are working in an intermediate or higher position level.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data was cited as the most important secondary skill for a Product Manager.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">83 percent have not participated in any projects involving voice-based experiences.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">87 percent have not been involved in the augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR). <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">51 percent of respondents believe the internet-of-things will have a significant impact in the next five to 10 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">74 percent said their organization was involved in digital transformation activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">63 percent said that their digital investments are growing. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">89 percent said there are elements of their products and services that did not exist five years earlier.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">52 percent said they were looking to invest or currently investing in an online sales platform.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">50 percent said they&#8217;ll be doing the most hiring in development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">41 percent, however, found development the hardest function to hire for. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a
