BrainStation\u2019s 2019 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/research\/digital-skills-survey-2019-results\/design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital Skills Survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that 77 percent of Designers had participated in workshops, and more than half relied upon blogs, online forums and other skills training avenues to make sure they\u2019re staying on top of a field that never stops moving.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there\u2019s another convenient way that in-the-know Designers are keeping their skills sharp: podcasts. With that in mind, here are 10 of the best podcasts for UX Designers.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/uxpodcast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>UX Podcast<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dating back to 2011 and recorded in Stockholm, Sweden, this twice-monthly podcast \u2013 co-hosted by Per Axbom and James Royal-Lawson \u2013 regularly reaches beyond the realm of user experience and seeks to engage anyone involved in digital media.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certainly, though, UX Designers will be especially interested in the show, which features an array of co-hosts and is produced in one of four formats: a link show, a guest show, a topic show, or an event show.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a popular recent episode, Stephen Anderson \u2013 author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seductive Interaction Design <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the person behind the Mental Notes card deck \u2013 joined the show to discuss facilitating discovery, while another highlight episode found Know Your Team CEO Claire Lew exploring the feedback loop.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/680434382&amp;color=%23ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false&amp;show_teaser=true&amp;visual=true\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/userdefenders.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>User Defenders Podcast<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re interested in knowing more about some of the world\u2019s top UX Designers and what makes them tick, Jason Ogle\u2019s inspiring and increasingly popular podcast is for you.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jasmine Oh, a UX Designer at Microsoft, recently joined the show for a stimulating discussion on how AI will drastically change UX, just a week after a great conversation with Nir Eyal on how to harness the power of being immune to distraction.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most episodes are around an hour, though a longer form June interview with Joe Natoli found the consultant and author discussing how grit and resilience can propel any UX Designer to great success (as well as his distaste for jargon).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/uxpod.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>UXpod<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A pioneer in the world of UX podcasts, host Gerry Gaffney \u2013 an author who runs the UX consultancy Information &amp; Design in Melbourne, Australia \u2013 has published 100 episodes of his podcast dating all the way back to 2006.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His guests tend to be just as seasoned. Recently, he interviewed Torrey Podmajersky, author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strategic Writing for UX <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and UX content strategy consultant at Google, on the art of UX writing, while another recommended recent interview found Celia Hodent \u2013 author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gamer\u2019s Brain: How Neuroscience and UX Can Impact Video Game Design <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a veteran of Ubisoft, LucasArts and Epic Games \u2013 exploring UX in video game design.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UXpod also helpfully archives transcripts of all of Gaffney\u2019s interviews.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/uibreakfast.com\/category\/podcast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>UI Breakfast: UI\/UX Design and Product Strategy<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Userlist CEO and head of product Jane Portman hosts this wide-ranging podcast, which features industry experts sharing actionable knowledge on UX\/UI design, SaaS products, marketing and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking for a place to start? Try a recent interview with startup coach, game designer, author and Game Thinking founder Amy Jo Kim, who shares how to use her method to shape the customer journey from discovery to habit building and mastery.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another recent highlight found Jeff Gothelf, author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lean UX <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sense &amp; Respond<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, discussing design methodologies \u2013 lean, agile and design thinking \u2013 and whether they can be used side-by-side.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.simplecast.com\/b4c8f724-62b9-4d48-816b-65d58de60e36?dark=false\" width=\"100%\" height=\"200px\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/spec.fm\/podcasts\/design-details\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Design Details<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Billed as a weekly discussion between Marshall Bock, design lead at YouTube Gaming, and Github designer Brian Lovin, Design Details doesn\u2019t need guests to hold your attention \u2013 although they are often joined by industry-leading experts.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this approachable podcast, Bock and Lovin often field questions from their listeners, discuss industry developments, dig into stories from their own careers, and share any cool things they happen to come across \u2013 for instance, in a September instalment, a 64-button mashup and a state-of-the-art mouse.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometimes, their guests help answer fan queries. Diana Mounter, who manages the design infrastructure at GitHub, recently jumped on the podcast to provide a detailed response to a listener question about the role of a design systems manager.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/shoptalkshow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>ShopTalk Show<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A podcast about building websites, Dave Rupert and Chris Coyier\u2019s long-running live show \u2013 which is now approaching 400 episodes \u2013 covers design, development, accessibility, tooling, performance, and everything in-between.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the show\u2019s most popular episodes simply find Rupert and Coyier answering questions from the audience \u2013 recently, they\u2019ve covered how to go from a single design comp down to a responsive implementation, while a May episode found the hosts offering advice on how to transition into UX.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They book great guests, too. Recently, Wendy McKennon \u2013 VP of product and user experience at Color \u2013 explored how genomics could be used as a preventative tool for whole populations of people as part of routine care.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another interesting instalment, Omada\u2019s senior director of product design, Patrick Weiss, joined host Matt Lenzi for a fascinating conversation about designing for behavior change.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/99percentinvisible.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>99% Invisible<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Initially a collaboration between KALW public radio and the American Institute of Architects in San Francisco, 99% Invisible has come a long way since host and creator Roman Mars produced the podcast from his bedroom.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The show is about all the elements of design hidden in everyday life that nevertheless shape the world around us. It\u2019s an entertaining listen regardless of your background, but will prove especially engaging for Designers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dive in with a recent episode documenting the rise and fall of the custom ringtone, or an interview with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">author Caroline Criado Perez looking at how often women are ignored in a design process that tends to favor men.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve absorbed an episode or two, check out the show\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/99percentinvisible.org\/episodes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for supplementary articles and features for each instalment.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmattersmedia.com\/designmatters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Design Matters<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Touted as the world\u2019s first podcast about design, Debbie Millman\u2019s podcast \u2013 a fixture since 2005 \u2013 is a great thought-starter with guests from far outside the world of tech.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, Millman and former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth recently sat down for a wide-ranging conversation that covered his career as well as martial arts, tattoos and the late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking for a show more closely aligned with UX design?
