Each season, we put that talent on display at Demo Day, which is an opportunity for graduates to showcase the work they\u2019ve accomplished over 12 weeks to colleagues and employers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We recently posted some of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/blog\/summer-graduate-showcase\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">our last cohort\u2019s best projects<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and we wanted to take a closer look at Shape, a platform created by UX Design graduate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/neversleepforever.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joel Lee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Prototype_60_Sec_v1-dribble.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9853\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Powered by artificial intelligence, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/neversleepforever.com\/Shape-Capstone-Case-Study\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shape<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an app that elegantly blends UX and data to help online shoppers find the clothes that will fit their body type best.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To do this, Shape references the measurements of your favorite brands to suggest new products, providing fit diagrams and sizing comparisons to help shoppers find the best addition to their wardrobe.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/23_Sketches-Discovery-Product-Detail-e1570737169850-1024x444.png\" alt=\"wireframes of Shape\" class=\"wp-image-9841\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/23_Sketches-Discovery-Product-Detail-e1570737169850-1024x444.png 1024w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/23_Sketches-Discovery-Product-Detail-e1570737169850-300x130.png 300w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/23_Sketches-Discovery-Product-Detail-e1570737169850-768x333.png 768w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/23_Sketches-Discovery-Product-Detail-e1570737169850-960x416.png 960w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/23_Sketches-Discovery-Product-Detail-e1570737169850.png 1915w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joel hypothesized that providing detailed sizing information would make customers more confident when purchasing online, which would ultimately lead to more eCommerce sales.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI&#8217;ve always had an interest in fashion from independent to luxury brands and in some way helping out friends who had their own brands,\u201d Lee said. \u201cOver the past few years, I was doing a lot of work within the music industry and I didn&#8217;t want to repeat something that I was generally way too close to, but wanted to be challenged with new problems that were less pre-programmed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, what was the first step in the design process?&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Prototype_60_Sec_v4-dribble.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9856\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFirst and foremost, research,\u201d Lee said, adding that this part of the process was one of the main reasons why he decided to pursue UX design training. With a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">robust b<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ackground<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in digital marketing and branding as an art director and designer, Lee was looking to add to his knowledge in UX.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI wanted to sharpen my skills in research and develop a stronger process of agile design, placing my focus on human-centered design,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also points out the importance of synthesizing data to identify customer needs and encourages \u201ctrying out new things to see how they test up against [previous] results.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/15_Primary-Persona-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9842\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/15_Primary-Persona-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/15_Primary-Persona-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/15_Primary-Persona-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/15_Primary-Persona-960x540.png 960w, https:\/\/d2re7sjnpekmig.cloudfront.net\/prod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/15_Primary-Persona.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It wasn\u2019t all easy of course. One of his major challenges was creating a diagram that would help customers understand an outfit\u2019s fit based on the fabric and style.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt first, most of the users had problems understanding how to use the diagram, it was fundamentally too complex,\u201d he explains. \u201cAfter a few rounds of UI testing, the issue was resolved by building a tooltip helping to explain the diagram and exercising visual recall during onboarding.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/share.protopie.io\/cVc4zfMXPy8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">end result<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an impressive platform that helps online shoppers select their next purchase with confidence.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Prototype_60_Sec_v3-dribble.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9854\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee will only continue to grow in UX design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe experience will continue to be an on-going process,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s still much to learn as there will be constant change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Want to create your own design project?
