76Design speaks at Third Tuesday

thirdtuesday3.jpgSteve Palmer of 76Design explained the methodology behind the company’s creation of a kid’s zone for the Ottawa Public Library at Third Tuesday in Vancouver today. The site revolves around kid-created user generated content, including letting kids create their own book clubs, quizzes and “lost chapters.” Palmer explained that the design team tryied to pick and choose the best features from sites like Facebook and Myspace and apply them to a site aimed at children. Challenges included safety, privacy and security, which are important factors in any web site but of paramount importance on a children’s site. Palmer added the idea was to allow a free flow of information while still making sure nothing offensive ended up on the site.
