Amazon Plotting a New Kindle Fire for July, Report Suggests. Will This One Come to Canada?

Amazon’s seven-inch Android tablet, the Kindle Fire, launched to great fanfare in the US late last year but its sales quickly dwindled.

The online retail giant is hoping to revive the device’s popularity with a next-gen model, according to a report this week from Cnet.

The Kindle Fire, which is still strangely not available on Amazon’s Canadian site, will be the soul of a July 31 launch event, the report suggests, as Amazon unveils a successor to the tablet.

This successor is expected to include more features, superior design, and enhanced performance, all while maintaining the $199 price tag. No word on an official Canadian launch, however.

Digitimes has also affirmed that Amazon will announce a new Kindle Fire this year, specifically in the early third quarter time period, reinforcing Cnet’s independent report.

To compete with the Kindle Fire, Google is expected to launch a seven-inch Nexus Tablet tomorrow at its I/O developers’ conference in San Fransisco.
