Bell and Microsoft decide to split

Earlier this month Dave Forde of Profectio hinted that Bell Canada and Microsoft were quietly working in the background trying to dissolve their Sympatico MSN partnership. Today Bell announced the two entities will go their seperate ways in an amicable split.

Bell today announced several enhancements to its Sympatico.ca portal following a new agreement with Microsoft that will see Sympatico.ca and MSN.ca operate as separate and distinct portals. To further enhance Canada’s leading general interest portal, Bell also announced four new channels to help inform and entertain Sympatico.ca visitors.

As part of the new three-year agreement, the companies will continue to cooperate and exchange traffic between each other’s portals, while Sympatico.ca will also leverage the new Bing search engine and continue to offer Windows Live Hotmail and Messenger inventory to Canadian advertisers. Canada’s popular default homepage address sympatico.msn.ca will also be redirected to Sympatico.ca.
