Bight Games, located in Charlottetown, PEI, are the developers of Trade Nations, an iPhone top 40 game on the Apple App Store. In its first six months, Trade Nations has been played over 300 million times, and manages to keep a 4.5 star rating.
There is no end goal of the game, merely to grow your prosperous medieval village, by trade and collecting goods. In gameplay, it positions itself somewhere between Sim City and Civilization.
The game is free, and the developers make their money the micro-transactions, otherwise known as in-app purchases. Though micro-transactions will help you along in the game, they are not necessary if you don’t mind a slightly slower pace.
Stuart Duncan, CEO of Bight Games says, “At the time when we had the idea there was no way to do micro-transactions on the iPhone. So we really had to way for the marketplace to catch up to our game design.” Bight Games employs 27 people and has made millions of dollars.
Trade Nations is available on both the iPhone and the iPad. It should also be available as a Facebook game within the month.
