BlackBerry Ends Collaboration with ‘Global Creative Director’ Alicia Keys

To no one’s surprise, Alicia Keys is set to part ways with BlackBerry.

Former chief executive officer Thorsten Heins hired the singer-songwriter at the start of last yearduring the BlackBerry 10 launch in January.

Keys was brought on board as a “global creative director,” and while she did some things, her time with the company was ultimately low-impact and a little shaky.

Her fate was likely sealed when Heins was fired late last year and replaced by chairman and interim CEO John Chen, who doesn’t seem like the type of guy to engage in celebrity hires. But BlackBerry says the contract was one year and this is how it was going to be regardless.

“BlackBerry and Alicia Keys have completed our year-long collaboration,” BlackBerry said in a statement. “We have enjoyed the opportunity to work with such an incredibly talented and passionate individual.”
