BlackBerry Launches Q5 in Canada: Here’s Who’s Going to Buy It

BlackBerry’s third BB10 device, the Q5, launched in Canada today.

The mid-tier smartphone is available from most carriers and many retailers, including Bell, Fido, Koodo, Virgin Mobile, Telus, and Sasktel, as well as Future Shop, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. A red edition of the device will be exclusive to Virgin.

The Q5 features a dual-core processor, 5-megapixel rear camera, HD video recording, a 3.1-inch touch screen, LTE connectivity, and a “stunning youthful design,” according to BlackBerry.

“Canada is our home, and bringing the BlackBerry Q5 smartphone here is a testament to our strong partner support and ongoing commitment to delivering innovative technologies that enable Canadian enterprises and consumers to improve how they connect and communicate,” says Andrew MacLeod, Managing Director for Canada at BlackBerry.

According to BlackBerry, here are the five main types of consumers who are apt to buy the company’s $350 device (or $50 on contract).

“Moms are always on the move, working hard to keep up with their children, take care of their households, meet their families’ demands, and kick butt in their careers. The BlackBerry Q5 smartphone helps keep them moving by providing a superior messaging experience with a full QWERTY keyboard that, when combined with the features of the BlackBerry 10 OS and the myriad productivity and entertainment apps offered in BlackBerry World, virtually fulfills all their mobile needs.”

“For many teenagers, their smartphones are nearly an extension of their arms as these devices contain all of their digital assets (photos, videos, and messages). The BlackBerry Q5 gives them the opportunity to speed up real-time communication and make it easy to share media, voice notes, and files with friends, all with a stylish and affordable smartphone.”

“The business-ready BlackBerry Q5 offers organizations and mobile workers the power and security of BlackBerry 10 at a cost-effective price. This solid and lightweight device takes full advantage of the BlackBerry 10 OS’s productivity and security features to let users share, create, and message faster than ever before.”

“These users are heavily reliant on their smartphones both at home and at work and are constantly looking for new features and apps to improve their experience. They also have extensive technical knowledge and demand a high-level of online and mobile safety, and that’s why they choose BlackBerry 10 smartphones.”

“The BlackBerry Q5 smartphone appeals to first-time smartphone users because of its eye-catching design, easy-to-use built-in features, and cost-effective price point. BlackBerry Q5 owners have all the advantages of cutting-edge technology in the BlackBerry 10 OS, including a one-stop communications BlackBerry Hub, BBM with Video, Voice and Screen Share features, Time Shift and Story Maker media features, and access to more than 120,000 apps in BlackBerry World.”
