Throughout this year, BlackBerry has been hosting Port-A-Thon events to encourage iOS and Android developers to port their apps to the BlackBerry 10 platform for $100 per app up to $2,000 per developer.
These events are now over and according to the Canadian company, 40,000 apps were ported and BlackBerry handed out $4 million to developers. During the first Port-A-Thon weekend, a whopping 15,000 apps were ported.
“The number of apps [developers] submitted greatly surpassed our expectations,” says Lou Gazzola of BlackBerry.
Gazzola added that, even though the Port-A-Thons are over, BlackBerry will continue to support developers. “Although we’re at the end of this series of BlackBerry Port-A-Thons, we haven’t stopped supporting your efforts through innovative developer programs,” he explained. “We have an incredible year planned out for the developer community.”
