BlackBerry Has Submitted BBM to Apple for App Store Approval, Executive Confirms

BlackBerry in May announced that is famous BlackBerry Messenger service would launch on competing mobile software platforms: Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.

Now the Waterloo-based smartphone pioneer has confirmed that BBM has already been submitted to Apple for approval in the iOS App Store. Via Twitter, BlackBerry executive Alex Kinsella noted that “BBM for iPhone was submitted for review two weeks ago.”

“The time is definitely right for BBM to become a multi-platform mobile service,” says Andrew Bocking, executive vice president of software product management and ecosystem at BlackBerry. “BBM has always been one of the most engaging services for BlackBerry customers, enabling them to easily connect while maintaining a valued level of personal privacy. We’re excited to offer iOS and Android users the possibility to join the BBM community.”

BBM boasts more than 60 million active users who send billions of messages per day.
