Kellogg Wants Canadians to Buy Cereal with Tweets

You can now buy a box of cereal with a tweet. Welcome to 2013.

In what Kellogg says will “give social currency a whole new meaning,” Canada’s first “Tweet Shop” is opening in the Toronto Eaton Centre from Thursday, March 7 to Saturday, March 9 to celebrate the launch of Kellogg’s All-Bran Cranberries & Clusters cereal.

At the All-Bran Tweet Shop, a tweet using the hashtag #AllBranTweetShop or a Facebook post about the cereal will score what Kellog promises is a full-size box—no money required.

Previously, Kellogg launched the world’s first Tweet Shop in London, England to introduce Kellogg’s Special K Cracker Crisps to the European market. The company dubbed it an “incredible success” and decided to bring it to Canada after observing that Canadians are extremely addicted to the internet.

“Kellogg’s All-Bran Cranberries and Clusters cereal is an innovative new product and we wanted to introduce it in an equally innovative way,” says Andrew Loucks, Vice President of Marketing for Kellogg Canada.  “We are making history by bringing Canada’s first Tweet Shop to Canada’s most popular mall in downtown Toronto. For the first time ever, Canadians can use social media as currency and turn a Tweet today into a delicious cereal for breakfast tomorrow.”

All-Bran Cranberries & Clusters cereal is the first new product in the All-Bran cereal line-up since 2008.
