Celebrating Female Founders: Alberta Women Entrepreneurs Now Accepting Award Nominations

Do you know any exceptional female tech company founders?

According to ATB, approximately 38% of SMEs in Alberta are owned or run by women. With success stories such as that of Splice Software, Chaordix, and Poppy Barley, the number of women-owned tech companies are sure to drive that number up.

Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) has announced the opening of the nomination period for the 2015 AWE Celebration of Achievement Award. The AWE Celebration of Achievement Award pays tribute to an exceptional entrepreneur who has achieved recognizable success, a visionary woman and inspirational leader who has built a venture in Alberta with significant impact on the economy and the community.

AWE has handed out the award since 2012. Its inaugural recipient was Arlene Dickinson, a Dragon on CBC’s Dragons’ Den, and CEO of the Calgary-based Venture Communications.

AWE is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enabling women to build successful businesses. They connect women entrepreneurs with startup and expansion capital, entrepreneur training and workshops, business advice, leadership development, and mentorship opportunities. In the past year, they expanded their programs to better serve their high-growth potential clients such as those in the technology sector.

The AWE Grow to Greatness Excelerator program won the Incubator/Accelerator of the Year award for the Prairie Region at last years’ Startup Canada Awards.

Nominations will close on October 31.
