Charlottetown’s Bight Games acquired by Electronic Arts

Last May our Stephen Christensen wrote about Charlottetown, PEI’s Bight Games success with their Trade Nations iPhone app.

Trade Nations had garnered was an iPhone top 40 game on the Apple App Store and in its first six months had  been played over 300 million times.

Bight’s success has not gone unnoticed and the company was acquired last week by Electronic Arts. From CBC’s coverage of the news:

“We just signed the deal on Friday, and we’re really excited about it. It’s a big change for us, and a lot of opportunity,” said the company’s CEO Stuart Duncan.

“It was a natural fit,” said Duncan. ” They have the expertise and the management and the support services — that side of the business that we don’t have the expertise in. Yet we can retain the benefit of those resources and continue to make games.”

Bight Games will continue to operate as an independent studio with 26 full time staff will be staying in Charlottetown.

Neither Duncan nor Electronic Arts have confirmed that acquisition price.
