Digital Alberta hosted their first event of the season last night at Seven Lounge in Calgary. There was a great turn out, and Digital Alberta had plenty of updates on their upcoming events and funding programs.
The panel for the evening was on Social Media and included Lynda Brown, Manoj Jasra, Roget Kondrat and myself. Things got off to a bit of a painful start, the first question being, “someone explain Twitter to me” but quickly turned into good conversation around top tips, the future of apps and monitoring tools.
I would love to see some more progressive thinking from Digital Alberta. Rene does a great job of organizing everything and keeping everyone up-to-date. However, there doesn’t seem to be anyone within Digital Alberta that is passionate about the digital community in Calgary. My vision for Digital Alberta is that it delivers cutting edge content for people in Calgary!
If Digital Alberta isn’t quite there yet, should you still buy a membership? Yes. They are headed in the right direction and their conference programs for entrepreneurs are outstanding. They take down teams of around ten to conferences including GDC and SXSW, including prepping everyone they take beforehand to ensure a good experience. The opportunity to do this alone is worth the price of membership – looking forward to great things to come from their direction in the next year.
