Do smartphone users actually use the ‘smart’ aspects of their phone or is it a status symbol?

Smartphones has often been referred to as status symbols, with people suggesting that many smartphone users actually use their phone for very little besides the basic talking and texting features available on any regular “feature phone.”

But new data may be evidence that smartphones are now better being utilized.

Application levels for smartphones are actually higher than basic feature phones, according to research from Nielsen’s Mobile Insights survey.

14 percent of new feature phone owners use their phone exclusively for talking, compared to just three percent of smartphone owners. The use of the built-in photo and video capturing is popular for both types of devices, but smartphones users more frequently take advantage of voice commands and especially for downloads.
