Enflick’s TextNow App Now Offers Voice and Data for $20 a Month

Enflick, the company behind TextNow, an Android app that provides free phone service over wifi, has now launched a full mobile phone service.

Running on top of its existing IP-based SMS and voice infrastructure, Enflick says the new phone service makes TextNow “the world’s first all-IP mobile operator.” According to the Waterloo-based company, TextNow’s all-IP model gives users the “most affordable phone services available in the market today.”

Prices for the service start at less than $20 per month, which gets you unlimited texting and incoming calls; 500 megabytes of data; call forwarding, visual voicemail and call display; and 750 minutes of calling per month.

“From day one, our biggest priority has been to make smartphone service better and more affordable for everyone,” says Derek Ting, cofounder and CEO of Enflick. “The announcement of TextNow mobile phone service—combined with our recent launch of MiFi—marks a big milestone toward accomplishing this mission and making it affordable for every person to have a cell phone in his or her pocket.”

Enflick has been quietly racking up accolades ever since it raised a $1 million seed round in 2011, the same year it was named to Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 and was recognized by the Digi Awards as one of Canada’s top digital companies. In 2012, Achievers named Enflick as one of five tech companies in its “Most Engaged Workplaces in Canada.” Its TextNow app currently boasts more than 20 million users.
