Extreme Startups Grad to Close $3 Million VC Round

Accelerator Extreme Startups debuted its latest cohort of digital entrepreneurs last night at an invite-only Demo Day at the Burroughes Building in Toronto.

Extreme Startups managing director Marcus Daniels emceed the event opened it describing his newly revamped accelerator as a four-month cross fit program for entrepreneurs.

The Extreme Startups grads launching products and seeking funding were SqueezeCMM, FameBit, ExecNote (self-identified as “HootSuite for Sales People), and Candid.

The event included alumni updates from grads Picatic and Sciencescape. Side note: ShopLocket’s Katherine Hague was scheduled to update the crowd but was “unavailable” – so look out for big news from ShopLocket soon.

While Picatic’s update confirmed why they are a finalist for our Accelerator Grad of the Year Award, the most impressive update came from Sciencescape’s Sam Molyneux.

Molyneux shared that his company has just closed $2.5 million of an oversubscribed funding round that will likely expand to $3 million. Sciencescape was a member of the last graduating class of Extreme Startups and their financing round is being led by iGan Partners.

Sciencescape is an academic research platform that is trying to make scientific research manageable for researchers, students and academics.

The financing round wasn’t the only progress update the startup announced. Molyneux also revealed that Sciencescape has now partnered with global educational publishing giant Elsevier. The partnership with Elsevier will provide access to 11 million full-text articles through Sciencescape directly.

If you missed the event, look out for the four graduating companies at the upcoming Extreme Startups Acceleration Zone at the DX3 Conference in Toronto.
