In a world where the connotation of “hacking” is changing from an ominous negative to an encouraged positive. Hacking is a central part of Facebook’s culture. Whether it’s to build the next product at a Facebook Hackathon or create a smarter search algorithm, the Facebook engineering team is always hacking away.

So it’s a natural next step for Facebook to announce its first worldwide Hacker Cup, which will bring engineers from around the world together to compete in a multi-round programming competition.

Starting on December 20, engineers will be able to register on the Facebook Hacker Cup Page. The online qualification rounds will be held through the month of January to select the top-scoring 25 competitors for the World finals happening at Facebook headquarters in California.
