Payfirma Named ‘FinTech Company of the Year’ at the Canadian FinTech Awards

Vancouver-based Payfirma has been named “FinTech Company of the Year” at the Canadian FinTech Awards, part of the annual Digital Finance Conference in Toronto.

The award is presented to the Canadian financial technology company that has shown the most entrepreneurial success in the past year. An impression recognition considered OMERS Ventures has identified 100 Next-Gen FinTech companies in Canada.

“Payfirma has had a banner year – we’re honoured to be recognized by the Digital Finance Institute,” says Michael Gokturk, Payfirma’s CEO.

“This award is a testament to the hard work of our amazing team. Acknowledgments like this only inspire us to keep striving for remarkable success.”

In May, Payfirma completed a Series A funding round of $13 million – the largest funding round for a Canadian fintech firm this year – bringing its total to $26 million to date.

To prepare for hyper-growth, the company recruited for several key positions including CMO Robin Jones and COO Yves Millette.

The Canadian FinTech Awards committee measures success on a number of factors including innovative technology; solving a technology need; capturing a new sector or market with fintech; disruption of a service or market segment; ability to generate media interest in the product or service; successful financing; application of product or service; and traction in, or ability to obtain traction in the international marketplace.
