Last night I had the pleasure of checking out the first annual OpenMusiqueMédia Montréal at Auberge Le Saint-Gabriel (Bar le Velvet).
OpenMusicMedia is an informal meetup to discuss, explore and shape the future of digital music and media. The group serves as a meeting point for people with similar interests. It provides a relaxed and informal environment to start conversations and promote openness and learning.
OMMM is part of a “loose network” of already exsisting OpenMusicMedia groups, which was started in London, England. Other groups are located in Belfast, Toronto and New York City.
OpenMusicMedia is a meetup specifically for people in the music industry but we try to encourage as diverse a range as possible. From people working at labels, to artists, to filmmakers, to bloggers, to web developers, to students. Anyone who is professionally or personally interested in the future of digital music and related media is welcome. The people who do come should do so without an agenda and we discourage self-promotion. The group could be as little as 10 people or as many as 100 people, as long as there’s a good conversation.
Topics of discussion included ideas in how to harness the power of social media to build relationships between undiscovered artists and their potential fans and new apps for music sharing.
OMMM’s organizers plan on holding the event on a monthly/bi-monthly schedule. They also hope to have some interesting guest speakers present at the event in the future.
