Google has already said Canadian businesses lack strong e-commerce platforms. Well, they for one are doing something about it.
The search engine titan plans to strengthen its brand in Canada by growing its staff pool, primarily in sales, marketing, policy, and engineering.
“The message is very clear: Invest for growth in Canada,” Google Canada’s new head was quoted as saying in Metro News. Chris O’Neill said that Google has a very well-known consumer face, but the business recognition isn’t there. Thus, he aims to ensure that Canadian businesses use more Google products and services – not just ads.
How much staff will be added is yet unknown, but Google currently has about 150 employees stationed in Canada, sprawled across offices in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Kitchener-Waterloo. Perhaps a Vancouver office may open.
