Government Surprises Canadian Consumers with Unexpectedly Anti-Telco Commercial

In an unusually blatant attack on Canada’s major telecommunications companies, the Canadian government recently released an online and television advertisement promoting competition and fair practices in the nation’s wireless market.

The surprisingly blunt 30-second spot openly admits that “Canadians pay some of the highest wireless rates in the developed world” and confesses that the Big Three—Rogers, Telus, and Bell—own 85% of the wireless airwaves (and more than 90% of the consumer market).

The commercial acknowledges that Canadians expect “more choice, lower prices, and better service” before pushing them to, which tackles those three areas of potential improvement.
