Hitcase Hacks your iPhone into a Wearable Helmet Camera

Today Vancouver’s Hitcase announced the compatibility of its popular Vidometer app with Apple’s iOS 6. The free app, which was downloaded 2,000 times in just 24 hours, records HD video with graphical overlay to display your speed, acceleration, altitude, G-Force and more on your iPhone videos while you are out on your latest adventure.

It’s a hybrid of what Recon has done for your goggles and what GoPro has done for your helmet. The Vidometer app paired with a mountable Hitcase iPhone case is ideal for mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, sky diving, dirt biking and other extreme sports.

Vidometer provides a ton of data and stats on your ride without requiring pricey measurement equipment and gives added credibility to your sickest action videos.

Vidometer uses the iPhone’s built in sensors, including the accelerometer, GPS, and gyroscope, to build a custom and accurate graphical overlay. The app lets you watch the live camera feed or play the video back later, export the video with or without the data overlay, and export videos to your iPhone camera roll. Vidometer can also be used as a dashcam or a head-up display.

Hitcase was founded by Brooks Bergreen. Bergeen is an avid adventurer who has lived and traveled in more than 40 countries. He is also the founder of 3world media, which produces documentaries about extraordinary individuals and organizations on the frontiers of NGO relief and development.

The Vidometer app pairs perfectly with Hitcase and Hitcase Pro, the company’s recently launched cases that revolutionize the way you use your iPhone by turning it into a rugged, waterproof point of view camera for action sports. Hitcase and Hitcase Pro feature a patent-pending ShockSeal design that protects your iPhone from the elements, shocks and drops, plus a Railslide Mount System that makes it quick and easy to mount Hitcase to just about anything.

Now through October 1, Hitcase is offering a pre-order special with Hitcase priced at $69 and Hitcase Pro priced at $99.
