iamota Brings Mobile Text Messaging to the Vancouver Civic Election

Vancouver-based mobile marketing firm Iamota is following the innovative example set by Democratic Senator and U.S. Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s online campaign and is using text messaging to send out updates and information on behalf of the Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) during Vancouver’s current civic election campaign. While politicians have traditional relied on real-life one-to-one interaction and public gatherings, Iometa is banking on a new wave of public officials sending their messaging out using methods that appeal to a younger, more connected electorate.

Mobile users can opt-in to receive updates from COPE by texting “COPE” to 333777, and can opt-out by texting “STOP” to the same number. Iamota is a privately-held company funded, according to their website, by seed investors and the management team.
