Kik’s Ted Livingston sparks VeloCity funding contest for Waterloo students

Thanks to a donation made by VeloCity alumni and instant messaging app Kik founder Ted Livingston, University of Waterloo students will have the opportunity to compete in a contest offering $25,000 grants.

The winners will receive not only cash but also incorporation of their startup and office space for their next work term to work on their new company. You don’t even have to live in VeloCity to enter—just be a student of the University of Waterloo.

Five teams will be given $500 after a weekend hackathan, and will then be given one month to turn that $500 into an impressive project for their shot at 25 grand.
