Let it Snow – iPhone Apps for Ski Season

I haven’t snagged an iPhone yet, but since I’m an avid skier, this post doubles ais a review request. Spectacular Apps just released Ski Lodge for iPhone. Developer David Watanabe wrote Ski Lodge to “embrace and enhance the winter mountain lifestyle”. He calls it a “niche product, for sure, but it’s a niche that I am passionate about.”

Most importantly, Ski Lodge  offers snow reports and live temperature, along with forecasts.  The application’s database of North American resorts also offers trail maps, live cams, directions, photos, and resort websites/contact info, and looks like it could be pretty useful to some. At the very least, Ski Lodge is promising live snowfall info until November 1, 2009. Download it directly here. Watanabe half-jokingly remarks in his blog post that the app also “gives you a button that you can use to call the resort’s info line, for those times you need a human voice (or you need to call the ski patrol!).” Exclamation marks aside, this feature could actually prove to be helpful if you ever find yourself in trouble while still in mobile range and need to quickly get in touch with help.

Zumobi has also recently teamed up with REI to offer a free REI Snow Report iPhone app, which lets you track fresh snow, lift status, forecasts, and live cameras for three resorts at a time.

Have you tried either of these applications? Please provide feedback if you have.
