Microsoft Latest Tech Titan with Smartwatch in Works, Report Says

Microsoft has a smartwatch in the works—and it’s only weeks away from launching.

This is according to a report from Forbes, which cities “sources close to the project.” According to Forbes, the wearable tech will passively track a wearer’s heart rate, work cross-platforms, and have a two-day battery life.

Some details remain unknown, however, such as the name of the device or its retail price tag.

Microsoft’s hardware excursions have typically been mediocre. The Zune, a portable music player designed to compete with Apple’s iPod, flopped. Meanwhile, the company’s lineup of Surface tablets have so far failed to gain any meaningful marketshare. Still, wearable technology remains an emerging product category with no clear winner yet.

Apple plans to launch its much-anticipated smartwatch in early 2015.
