Last year, we were surprised to learn that more than half of all mobile developers failed to break even from revenue generated by their apps. However, we figured that this number would improve over time as app ecosystems evolved and developers started to master best practices.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case. In fact, the opposite is true: according to this year’s report from App Promo, more developers than ever aren’t breaking even. The company says that now 67% of developers fail to generate enough revenue, up 8% from the year before.
There is good news, though. Despite the challenges, developers are not giving up. “App developers are a tenacious bunch,” says App Promo. “81% said they would not abandon their app despite the same amount not making enough money to support a standalone business with their app. Luckily, those that choose to stick it out are seeing success.”
