Mployd Wins Honors At 2008 SEOmoz Web 2.0 Awards

At the 2008 SEOmoz Web 2.0 Awards, Winnipeg-based Mployd.com has received an honorable mention under the category of Employment and Jobs.

Just being in competition was quite an honor, considering the winners in the category were established employment website giants Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com. Mployd only launched about six months ago, but clearly, it’s doing a good job of… well, getting people jobs.

Employment websites have undoubtedly helped millions of employers and employees find each other. The sector has got to be one of the big success stories of the entire Web. Probably close to 100 per cent of job seekers use the Internet in their search, even if they don’t all necessarily register on official job seeking sites. By a margin of two-to-one, Internet-savvy job seekers believe online job-search sites are “a more effective tool for finding a new or improved job than newspaper job listings (Quintcareers.com).

But are job sites effective enough by themselves to make other methods seem ineffective? Networking seems at least as useful in landing an interview as online efforts. Never underestimate the awesome power of personal connections.
