News in Short: Google trumps JPEG with WebP format, RIM to replace its OS with QNX software

Google trumps JPEG with WebP format

Google has introduced the new WebP image format, which claims an average savings of 40% over a comparable JPEG.

RIM to replace its OS with QNX software

QNX, a software company acquired by Research in Motion and the developer for the forthcoming Playbook’s potentially potent operating system, may just replace the OS in future Blackberries too.

Although RIM just finished launching OS 6, supported on its new Blackberry Torch, its widely expected that future smartphones, beginning in late 2011, will feature QNX software instead.
