Nowpublic News Director Will Head Up CBC Digital Media is reporting that Rachel Nixon, the current news director at NowPublic, the Vancouver-based participatory news agency/citizen journalism site, has been appointed as the new director for CBC Digital Media.  She will start her post as the head of the department as of June 1 in Toronto.  Rachel Nixon is a veteran in the online news editorial space.  She spent nine years at and in cross-media platforms. She is also an award-winning journalist. According to the article, Jennifer McGuire, Interim Publisher of CBC News and Executive Director of News Programming said:

Rachel will have the responsibility for charting the overall strategic direction for CBC News’ digital media unit-setting the right priorities, and overseeing the successful execution of the strategy. Her background in strategic planning, development, and delivery of editorial content makes her the ideal candidate for this role. She will be an excellent addition to the CBC News management team.

Nixon told that she is excited to build on what the agency has started.  With many of NowPublic’s employees being laid off recently, and now this news, I’m assuming we’re going to learn about the future direction the company is taking very soon.
