Always looking for a dime, online retailing titan Amazon has launched “Kindle Singles,” which are essentially cheaper, tinier e-books, but packaged in a cute little marketing bow.
According to Amazon, Kindle Singles are “twice the length of a New Yorker feature or as much as a few chapters of a typical book.” Singles will have their own section in the Kindle Store and be priced “much less than a typical book.”
Amazon also said in its release that the Singles product launch is a “call to serious writers, thinkers, scientists, business leaders, historians, politicians and publishers to join Amazon in making such works available to readers around the world.” But by remaing vague on pricing, and even more vague on whether these will be primarily self published or what, we’ll have to wait around kickin’ sand ’till they tell us.
Either way, I hope they don’t suck like Kraft Singles. Blech.
