One-third of Canadian Parents Don’t Understand What Their Children Do at Work These Days

Online professional network LinkedIn says that many Canadian parents don’t actually understand what their children do for work day-to-day.

According to a recent study by LinkedIn, more than one third of parents don’t understand what their children do at work; over half want to find out more about what their child does; and more than one-third feel it could be beneficial to their child’s career development if the parents better understood their child’s job.

As a result of this, LinkedIn has created Bring In Your Parents Day, a worldwide event taking place on Thursday, November 7. LinkedIn encourages professionals to invite their parents into their workplace to provide them with a first-hand look and greater understanding of what they actually do every day.



“Given all of the new types of jobs created over the past few years, it’s understandable that a lot of parents may not understand what their kids actually do at work each day,” says Pat Wadors, vice president of talent at LinkedIn. “We created LinkedIn Bring In Your Parents Day so that professionals worldwide can provide their parents a glimpse into what they do at work, and in return, learn valuable lessons and even greater admiration from their parents.”

The five most misunderstood jobs in Canada are sub-editor, data scientost, actuary, social media manager, and public relations manager. Other highly misunderstood jobs include sociologist, radio producer, fashion designer, engineer, and sports team manager.
