Pivotal Opens Office in Toronto, Commits $300 Million Investment to Canadian Operations

US-based cloud software giant Pivotal is expanding to Toronto in a big way.

The American tech titan plans to invest $300 million in its Canadian operations over the next 10 years.

Based in California, Pivotal last year acquired Toronto-based mobile developer Xtreme Labs for $65 million. At the time, it was promised that the jobs of Xtreme, which was founded in 2007, would remain in Canada. It seems Pivotal is now over-delivering on that promise. The two companies combined boast well over 500 employees.

“Every enterprise today has to exploit the opportunities offered by mobile,” said Paul Maritz, the CEO of Pivotal, last year. “This requires new ways of thinking and working, and the need to get it right the first time and every time.”

“We share Pivotal’s belief that the convergence of mobile, social, big data, and cloud is driving extraordinary change in the enterprise,” said Amar Varma, a cofounder of Xtreme Labs, last year. “It is something we see every day with our customers.

The Canadian headquarters of Pivotal is already the company’s second-biggest office and will soon house nearly 300 engineers, designers, product managers, and supporting staff.
