Research In Motion still ranks first in Canada with over 40 percent of the smartphone market

Roughly one-third of Canadians own smartphones, but what types of smartphones?

ComScore has launched its Mobile Measurement in Canada report, which provides insights into Canadian consumers’ mobile behaviours and device usage. Its result show that Waterloo-based Research in Motion still holds a strong grip on the market here, claiming 42 percent of the market with its broad spectrum of BlackBerry products.

However, since Apple’s launch of the iPhone back in 2007, RIM has lost market share to Steve Job’s company, whose iOS platform now holds just over 30 percent of the Canadian smartphone market.

Google ranks third with 12 percent, Symbian with 6 percent, and Microsoft with 5 percent.
