RIM May Announce TV Service For The Blackberry

Rumors have been circulating that Research in Motion may be announcing a full episode TV service at this years CTIA conference. So far nothing official has been announced but many analysts believe the service could be announced to coincide with the April 1st launch of their App World application store.

The TV service is expected to offer unlimited service for a monthly fee, with multiple cable operators offering licensed content. TV episodes when selected are downloaded via Wi-Fi.

Blackberry users can already access TV on their smart phones with services such as MobitTV and they can even stream TV from their home with the Sling Media application. Although it may not be the killer application RIM needs to distinguish its application store from competitors the companies significant market share of the world’s smart phone market (19.5%) may make the TV service a hit.
