Samsonite Canada Optimizes Site for Mobile Commerce

Samsonite Canada has entered the mobile commerce arena with a new website that allows consumers to research and purchase luggage and travel accessories on-the-go. Samsonite, which you may remember from Mad Men (season four, episode seven), is the first major entrant in Canada’s luggage market to launch a mobile optimized ecommerce presence.

“We aim to perpetuate and enhance our leadership position in the market; firstly by continuing to provide best in class products and a total support philosophy for our valued Samsonite Retailers and secondly by upgrading our ecommerce platform with an enhanced experience for consumers who prefer this purchasing style” notes Paul DeCorso, General Manager at Samsonite Canada.

In an effort to continually grow sales in the retail channel, Samonsite says that the new website places equal prominence on increasing foot traffic to local retailers through tools such as GPS detection and a store locator.

“Our plan for the rebuild included placing equal focus on selling online and helping consumers find their nearest Samsonite retailer,” explains Jonathan Kochis, a partner at ResIM, the firm behind the new site. “The previous Samsonite Canada web overhaul resulted in double-digit sales growth simply by making it easy for consumers to find a store nearby.”
