Canadian gamers have another reason to celebrate this week as the World Cyber Games tournament officially kicks off. World Cyber Games Canada will be hosting an online competition as well as regional tournaments to test the mettle of video game fans throughout the nation.
Since 2000, the World Cyber Games tournament has been billed as the Olympics of e-sports. The annual event, which features almost one million players, is the only e-sports competition to host participants across six different continents, including North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Asia.
Beginning September 28, Canadian participants will compete in a free online tournament for one of three official titles selected for this year’s competition: FIFA 12, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, and Cross Fire. The top players from each of the online qualifying rounds will advance to the next round of competition and will receive free travel to one of three regional finals taking place in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec this fall.
Once the national competition is complete, one winner from each regional final will be selected for the StarCraft and FIFA championship teams. They, along with the best Cross Fire team, will receive a free trip to represent Canada at the 2012 World Cyber Games Grand Final, which takes place from November 29 to December 2nd in Kunshan, China. Past championship finals have been hosted in different international cities, including Seoul, San Francisco, and Cologne.
World Cyber Games is also teaming up with Samsung Canada to offer players a competitive edge. Each participant in the finals will be assigned a Samsung Series 7 Gaming Laptop and 27-inch Series 9 3D LED Monitor to use while competing. In addition, visitors at each of the regional events will have the opportunity to test out the latest in Samsung technology, including SMART TVs with motion control and the new GALAXY GS III smartphone. If you can’t make it out to one of the regional tournaments, you can still catch all of the World Cyber Games action via their official live stream. Fans can also enter to win a Series 7 Gaming Laptop by visiting Samsung Canada’s official Facebook page
The dynamic partnership between Samsung and World Cyber Games makes this year’s tournament the premiere vehicle for bringing gamers together. With its commitment to showcasing the latest in computer and mobile technology, the World Cyber Games event is poised to capture the attention of players all over the world this November.
