Samsung Canada is hoping to capitalize on the recent releases of new smartphone models as it releases it’s own Android-powered version.
Last week Apple’s iPhone 4 hit Canadian shores stores to much fanfare and hoopla. Yesterday, Waterloo-based Research in Motion released their new BlackBerry Torch with the new BlackBerry 6 operating system.
Later this afternoon, Samsung will be throwing a street party of sorts.
Toronto’s Union Station will be the site of a rush hour concert featuring one of Canada’s most popular indie rock bands, Metric.
Samsung will be using this concert to also introduce their new Galaxy S smartphone to the Canadian marketplace.
While Apple and RIM use traditional corporate venues and events to launch their new products, Samsung Canada has chosen to go grassroots with their new release. Whether this marketing initiative will work or not is still to be determined. One thing is for sure though: Canada’s leading mobile phone brand sure knows how to throw a party.
