iPhone fans are used to being able to dial up voice, data, Twitter, Facebook, restaurant reviews and practically everything else via their mobile device. But until now, they haven’t been able to control their own homes via the device.
Evolution Home Entertainment just launched Savant, an iPhone-based automation solution that places control of audio, video, lights, security, climate and other living environment controls onto the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Using the iPhone’s touch interface, users can control the various systems in their homes from anywhere in the world with a connection to the internet. One of the more intuitive touches to the device is the inclusion of photographic icons portraying each room of the user’s house.
Evolution’s previous products worked on the same touch interface using customized hardware, so the move to the iPhone was a natural fit.
Of course, the iPhone must pair with a host controller device located within the home, but with so many people moving to smartphones and specifically Apple devices, it was only a matter of time before the two once-disparate areas of technology met and synergized.
But can Savant tell me how many beers are in the fridge, and if needed order more? If so, count me in.
Savant premieres December 3rd at Sound Design in Toronto’s Distillery District.
