Saving Canadian Bridesmaids Online

Deb Viccars and Catherine Staveley are saving Canada’s poor, unexpecting bridesmaids from a fate of sea foam green taffeta, puffed sleeves and huge bows. Two years ago they opened Frocks Modern Bridesmaids in Richmond, BC along with a web presence that serves brides and bridesmaids around the world.

Having planned their own weddings and been bridesmaids many times themselves, they knew what it was like to search online only to be disappointed with the selection of dresses available. So they searched high and low and found some great small design houses and opened their own small boutique. When they originally opened their retail store, they hoped to reach brides and bridesmaids in the Vancouver area but their dot-ca website – www.frocks.ca – opened up an entirely unexpected clientele.

They now have customers all across Canada and as a result have helped bridesmaids as far away as Australia, England and Dubai. Their site has become a meeting place for customers, a source of inspiration for brides, and an opportunity for sisters and friends around the world to connect online while planning their wedding.

This profile is part of CIRA’s Tell us Your Dot-ca Story contest which asked entrants to describe how they use their dot-ca domain name. More than 4,000 entries were submitted by dot-ca domain name Registrants across Canada and Frocks was one of the winners.
