Scene Adds Social and Gamification Features to Movie Experience

Scene is bring a gamification dynamic to its online social efforts. The Canadian movie rewards program, which has 3.5 million members, has launched the Trivia Stars Facebook game.

The game has users—including non-members—put their movie knowledge to the test with 10 questions across multiple genres. The game offers the chance to earn Scene points, which can be cashed in for free movie tickets, popcorn, DVDs, and even gift cards to Milestones.

“Scene members love movies and will share their favourite movie experiences with us on our Facebook page,” says Katherine Dimopoulos, Scene’s Head of Marketing and Brand Experience. “The launch of this fun Facebook game gives movie-goers the chance to interact with other members while testing their movie knowledge and the opportunity to interact with Scene between visits to the theatre.”

Scene also refreshed its website, adding the Scenetourage feature, which adds member benefits when groups of 3 to 10 people go to the movies together.

“Going to movies is a social experience,” Katherine notes, “so we love how Scenetourage recognizes and rewards a behaviour that is natural to our members in a relevant and fun way, while introducing a few gaming elements to create buzz, enhance engagement, and deliver a truly entertaining experience.”

And after 28% of Canadians said in a survey that they want to engage with their loyalty programs via their mobile devices, Scene enabled users to add their membership card to the Cineplex mobile app, turning their smartphone into a Scene card.
