Set up Shop in Shopify’s Toronto Office

Toronto-based startup This Space Works has partnered with Canadian success story Shopify to raise money for nonprofits.

To raise funds, This Space Works is auctioning off the opportunity to set up in Shopify’s boardroom for the day on October 23. The auction proceeds will allow two not-for-profit companies – The Daily Bread Food Bank and Women in Communications and Technology – to book meeting spaces of their choice through This Space Works’ service.

This Space Works is a new part of a “sharing economy” that lets mobile professionals book an office for the day. Similar to Airbnb, This Space Works allows businesses to list offices and meeting spaces and make them available to mobile professionals that need them. Businesses can rent out their offices and boardrooms when they’re not in use and local freelancers and small businesses can book somewhere to meet besides the coffee shop.

This Space Works co-founders, Lise Snelgrove and Janice McDonald, are committed to building a company that integrates giving back into its everyday operations. Snelgrove notes:

“As part of the sharing economy we match what people have with what people need,” say cofounders Lise Snelgrove and Janice McDonal. “But by running auctions like this, we’re also providing a way for local companies to give back together.”

Tweet your #bid to @thisspaceworks. The winning bidder will be notified at the end of the day on October 3. Proceeds will go to providing meeting spaces for Women in Communications and Technology and the Daily Bread Food Bank.
