Starting Tomorrow, Uber Users in Canada Will be Able to Choose the Type of Vehicle That Picks Them Up

Uber has been getting many requests over the past few months to add SUVs to its lineup of vehicles to accomodate larger groups of users. The American startup, which has been expanding into Canada this year, has finally solved this problem.

Effective tomorrow, Uber says that Torontonians will be able to choose between their classic “Black” sedan and a new SUV option.

“We’re giving you the freedom to choose between our classic black car option, which you know and love, and the almighty SUV,” the company wrote in a blog post today.

Uber’s standard Black car service will send a “high-end sedan” (or an SUV at no extra charge if it’s out of cars) that seats up to four people, while the SUV option will accomodate up to six passengers.

While the black service has a starting fare of $8 and a minimum fare of $15, the SUV charges a $23 base fare and a $30 minimum fare. However, the per KM and per minute rates are the same for both options.

“This is a big moment for us in Toronto and we hope you’re as excited as we are to pick your ride,” Uber says.
