Two Canadian Tech Entrepreneurs Launch The Chic Geek to Increase Diversity in Startups

Two Calgarian tech entrepreneurs, Kylie Toh and Morgan Moe, have launched The Chic Geek, a community-driven grassroots organization designed to increase diversity in the high-tech and startup communities by educating, engaging and empowering women.

Kylie is a tech communications professional and Morgan is the cofounder of StrokeLink and alum of the Next36 Accelerator.

To celebrate The Chic Geek’s launch, the gals are hosting their first event, The IT Factor, on Monday, February 25 at 7pm MST in the Melrose Café and Bar.

The event will include a speaker session featuring Victoria MacLean, cofounder of BeauCoo; Sharon McIntyre, CMO of Chaordix; Breanne Everett, CEO of Orpyx Medical; and Kylie Lakevold, founder of TypeWhale—four leading women in Calgary’s tech community.

“Calgary has such a vibrant and growing startup community, but there are so few women,” says Kylie Toh. “This first event is about launching The Chic Geek, celebrating the women shaping this community and inspiring others to get involved.”

Other Chic Geek events and workshops will be announced shortly and will include topics such as HTML coding, app development, and basic programming skills. Networking events and mentorship opportunities will also eventually be available. You can register for The Chic Geek’s inaugural event here.
