The ‘Greatest Canadian You Never Heard of’ Awarded Order of Canada

Jeff Skoll, who the Calgary Herald has dubbed “the greatest Canadian you never heard of,” will be presented with the Order of Canada this week.

While the Order comes as a result of his philanthropic work, the Montreal-born engineer and social entrepreneur was a major key to auction titan eBay’s success. His role at that tech company made him an overnight billionaire.

The e-commerce pioneer, who now lives in Los Angeles, has since started the Skoll Foundation and the Global Threats Fund, and uses his money to produce movies with messages about protecting the world—the most famous of which has been Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.

The Calgary Herald likens Jeff Skoll to one of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time. He “has transformed our world in ways just as lasting as figures like Steve Jobs,” the paper hails.
