What was the inspiration behind a week of dedicated events and forums related to the technology space in the city of Toronto? It was this simple statistic that prompted it all: “Toronto is the third largest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) cluster in North America, after San Francisco and New York”.
The goal of the ICT is clear and the vision is solidified by the notion that Toronto should be acknowledged globally, as one of the five most innovative, creative and productive locations in the world for ICT research, education, business, and investment by 2011.
Celebrating Toronto as the 3rd largest ICT cluster in North America, after Silicon Valley and New York, TorontoTechWeek brings the GTA technology community together to facilitate connections among industry stakeholders and to foster the sharing of knowledge, challenges, and best practices.
Initially launched in 2007 by the City of Toronto’s ICT Advisory Committee, this year’s TorontoTechWeek is organized by the TorontoTechWeek Association, chaired by Dave Forde. Core programs will be held starting with a special kick-off presentation and featuring a special ‘state-of-the-nation’ panel discussion on the key issues facing the technology industry today. Dynamic, inspiring keynotes and a host of other top-notch speakers, all leading experts in their fields follow throughout the week. In addition, in and around the City, other organizations are also hosting events—demonstrating the strength, and promoting the growth, of Toronto’s technology industry.
David Forde, founder of Toronto tech week had this to say about the upcoming event:
The fact that Toronto is home to over 3,000 technology companies tends to surprise many people – locals and visitors alike. Our story, the one about a thriving, vibrant GTA technology industry has never really been told on a global scale. Nor has it been shared here at home as many people do not know about some of the successful, growing companies such as Freshbooks.com, Octopz.com or First Coverage.Part of my vision for TorontoTechWeek is to create an opportunity where the many stories are told, and over the week people will get together for business development, education, networking and showcase. The team has put together what will be a great second annual TorontoTechWeek with over 80 speakers from across North America. In addition, a number of industry associations and groups will also be hosting events.I am excited about the depth and breadth of the program and the value it will to provide to participants. Our goal is for delegates to leave the week inspired with new ideas, contacts, and with practical learnings they can readily apply to their business and their careers. So book early to avoid disappointment.I look forward to welcoming you in September.
