Vancouver’s Summify lands seed round from W Media Ventures

Last week Techvibes reported that Bootup Labs incubated Summify had pivoted their startup into a Social News Reader.

Today they announced that they have received a round of angel financing from Boris Wertz of W Media Ventures for this new product.

Summify’s Social News Reader lets you consume a flood of real-time news in minutes rather than the hours many are used to using tools like Google Reader.

Summify aggregates and de-duplicates all the links from your social feeds and curates them into your “top news stories” using an algorithm that takes into account your social (and interest) graph. Essentially letting the most interesting and relevant news bubble to the top.

The investment from W Media Ventures will be used to help accelerate development initiatives including the launch of its mobile offering.

W Media Ventures is an angel fund focusing on early-stage Consumer Internet opportunities in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. Founded by Internet entrepreneur and investor Boris Wertz in 2007, W Media Ventures is based in Vancouver and is an investor in Techvibes Media Inc. as well as Tynt, Suite101, and Indochino.
