Canadian startup Wantster has raised $4 million from Evanov Communications, a Canadian radio broadcasting company.
Wantster, which TechCrunch describes as Fancy for Canada, emphasizes its white-hot growth: the company has more users after seven months than Pinterest did at 10 months. The startup, which tags itself as “a wishlist on steroids,” was founded by Ky Joseph and Chris Edelman.
Evanov says it will invest its traditional media assets to drive awareness of Wantster, although details of exactly how the startup plans to spend its newfound riches are being kept under wraps. TechCrunch suggests on area for future development is mobile, which the tech blog notes has been “a key part of Pinterest’s growth story.” Wantster just launched an iPhone app last week.
